7 Elements of Design

There are many elements of design, and if you follow these elements, you will end up with a design that is appropriate. Here are the 7 elements of design.

1. Line

A line is a mark between two points. There are various types of lines. There is the straight the squiggly, the curved, and more. Lines can be used for a wide range of purposes, including stressing a word or phrase, or connecting content to one another, creating patterns and much more.

This can be applied in interior design as well, as outlines, and placement depend on lines, as well as design elements such as paintings, and fixtures.

2. Color

Color is used to generate emotions, define importance, create visual interest and more. CMYK is subtractive, and RGB is additive.

Some colors are warm and active like orange and red, while some are cool and passive like blue and purple.

There are various color types, and relationships worth learning more about as well, such as monochromatic and triad.


3. Texture

Texture relates the surface of an object, the look or feel of it. Concrete has a rough texture, adrywall has a smooth texture. Using texture in design is a great way to add depth and visual interest.

4. Shape

There are various kinds of shapes, we have triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles. You can use these shapes in order to create a stunning visual design.


5. Value

Value is how light and dark areas look.

6. Space

Space is the area around or between elements in a design.

7. Size

Size is how small or large something is.
